“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.”
– Chinese Proverb
Hi, my name is Marc Soss, and I’m nearing the end of my junior year at Cal Poly Pomona. I’m majoring in Electrical Engineering and minoring in Physics. I decided to pursue this path because of my passion for photonic and optical technology. I figured the best segue into learning more about these fields would be through studying electrical engineering and physics. So far, I’ve greatly enjoyed the journey, and I’m looking forward to finishing strong in the short time I have left (about a year).
So what’s the purpose of this blog?
I’m not here to show perfection — far from it, if anything.
I’m here to track the chaos and progress that comes with being an engineering student.
Everyone loves to post about their successes, and it’s easy to get caught up in the noise — comparing yourself, second-guessing your abilities, and regretting not starting sooner.
That’s why the quote at the top means so much to me.
I want the second-best time for myself to be now, and I want to transform my habits.
This blog isn’t just about showing my successes, it’s about documenting the full picture.
Motivation comes and goes, but passion and determination are what keep bringing me back.
Whether it’s personal projects, class updates, or anything else engineering-related, my goal is to stay accountable and keep moving forward. I’m planning to log my progress every day and post every few days to reflect on how things are going.
I’m excited for the journey ahead, and I’m looking forward to sharing my progress.
